Services
OUR SERVICES
We offer a complete range of services to meet your individual needs. Our primary focus is one-on-one evaluation and rehabilitation. Our services are covered by certain medical aids and include:

Functional Assessment
-
Musculoskeletal assessment
-
Posture analysis
-
Proprioception
-
Strength and flexibility
-
Biomechanical (movement) analysis
-
Injury assessment and rehabilitation prescription
A musculoskeletal assessment involves the analysis of the body’s joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves and tendons. Posture is evaluated as it has a large influence on increasing ones risk of injury.
Proprioception refers to the overall sense of body position and movement in space. One can be both strong and flexible, but if proprioception is poor then movements cannot be executed in a controlled manner.
Gait & Running Analysis
-
Video and foot plate analysis
-
Running shoe advice
-
Strength and flexibility
-
Biomechanical (movement) analysis
-
Injury assessment
-
Foot, lower leg and pelvic evaluation

Corporate Wellness
The practice is licensed to perform fitness & wellness testing for
These tests may also be done independently and are designed to assess health markers such as cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance, flexibility, functional movement screen, cholesterol, blood pressure and body fat.
The practice is able to do on-site workplace testing if there is sufficient demand from employees.

Pregnancy Assessment
In the past doctors were concerned that exercise might harm the growing baby and discouraged pregnant women from breaking a sweat. Researchers have now proven that prenatal inactivity - no exercise - puts moms-to-be and their babies at risk. For low-risk pregnancies, prenatal exercise is absolutely safe. Inactivity during pregnancy can make you more susceptible to excessive weight gain, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and greater odds of a c-section. Therefore, there is plenty of incentive for moms-to-be to exercise!:
-
Improved posture
-
Toned and strengthened muscles in areas that are under stress, particularly back, abdomen and pelvis
-
Ease back pain.
-
Improved blood circulation
-
Assistance with controlled weight gain
-
Battle postpartum depression with an improved sense of wellbeing and overall energy levels
-
Increased fitness and endurance during pregnancy as well as labour
-
Rapid return to normal body weight after birth
Our pregnancy assessment is a scientifically based assessment designed for the expectant and new mother. All moms’ are screened and assessed by qualified Biokineticists, pre-and post-natal, to monitor progress. The initial assessment includes body fat percentage, pelvic stability and diastasis evaluation, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, as well as flexibility testing. Therapeutic modalities include: resistance training, aqua therapy, cardiovascular exercise and Pilates classes.
Group Classes
We also offer the following group classes:
-
Pilates
-
Healthy Spines
-
Healthy moms

Pediatric (Child) Assessment
There has been a rapid rise in the number of sports related and postural injuries in children, particularly adolescents over the past decade. This is related to the fact that many children are either not physically literate or they are participating in too many sports, too many times a week at too great an intensity for their growing bodies to cope. In our Children’s Programme we focus on screening children to determine their level of physical development and whether certain milestones have been reached.

Neurological Evaluation
This practice has a reputation in the Biokinetics field for its extensive experience in dealing with neurological conditions. Our most prevalent disorders include:
-
Stroke
-
Spinal cord injury
-
Parkinson’s disease
-
Multiple Sclerosis
-
Friedrich’s ataxia
-
Autism
-
Cerebral palsy
Neurological physical rehabilitation is extremely important for those patients who have had or who currently have neurological diseases or injuries. The brain, spinal cord and nervous system control movement and sensation. Injuries to these areas cause death of the cells that control certain movements and sensations, and therefore people lose function. Without rehabilitation following a neurological injury, patients may lose many functions and not be able to perform certain activities. Decreased intensity of activity leads to many other health problems such as diabetes, heart problems, lung problems, decreased independence and an overall poor quality of life.
Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis is a lateral (toward the side) curvature of more than 15 degrees in the normally straight vertical line of the spine. Idiopathic (unknown cause) scoliosis is the most common type of scoliosis, typically affecting adolescents from ages 10 through to 17. Idiopathic scoliosis may progress during the "growth spurt" years, but usually will not progress during adulthood. Early detection is therefore of great importance.
Our Biokineticists specialise in screening for scoliosis as well as prescribing an effective treatment plan to reduce progression. Our exercise prescription is scientifically-based and addresses scoliosis in all three planes - sagittal, frontal, and transverse. This means that correction needs to occur not only from side to side and front to back, but must also consider the rotary movements of the spine and importance of the rib cage in spinal alignment.

Our exercise prescription is based on Scoliosis Specific Exercise, primarily from Schroth and SEAS techniques. This form of exercise treatment for scoliosis has been shown to be most effective in conjunction with RSC bracing ,in curves less than 40deg.
